Last week, the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) announced the winners of the 16th Annual Mariel C. Furlong Awards for Making a Difference, their annual awards for those who are dedicated to raising awareness of food allergy issues.

According toBusiness Wire,the awards were instituted in 1996 to honor businesses and individuals who strive to make a difference in the lives of those with food allergies. The awards are named after the daughter of Anne Muñoz-Furlong, the founder of FAAN. They will be formally presented at FAAN’s 19th Annual Food Allergy Conferences, which take place in Illinois on March 31, New York on April 28th, and California on June 9th.

The awards will be presented to a number of support groups, restaurants, schools and faculty members, and other individuals and organizations that have shown commitment to raising awareness of food allergies. FAAN will also present special Grandparent Awards and Youth Special Achievement Awards. Among this year’s honorees are Red Robin; the national restaurant chain is being recognized for its food allergy management practices.

In announcing the awards, Eleanor Garrow, FAAN Vice President of Education and Outreach, said “We’re so grateful for these incredibly dedicated support group leaders, educators, grandparents, healthcare professionals, and companies who have truly demonstrated their commitment to improving the lives of individuals with food allergies in many ways.”
