Pop star Lady Gaga has reportedly gone gluten-free in an effort to lose weight.

The Australian newspaperSky Newsreports that the “Born This Way” singer, who is 26, hopes that cutting wheat from her diet will help her lose 10 pounds and give her an energy boost as she finishes an international tour.

The paper reports “Gaga has decided to go on a major body blitz and cut out all gluten and wheat from her diet. She has given her people strict instruction to advise staff at venues and restaurants about her new diet because she is taking it very seriously.” She’s also cut out other sources of carbs, limiting herself to one serving of rice or potatoes each week in addition to fish, chicken, and vegetables. To satisfy a craving for sweets, she occasionally indulges in a gluten-free cookie, the newspaper’s source reports.

Gluten-Free Weight Loss Diet Fad

Lady Gaga isn’t the only star to turn to a gluten-free diet for weight loss. Earlier this year, Miley Cyrus went gluten-free; at the time, she said that she was allergic to both gluten and dairy, though neither allergy has been confirmed.

Some people have criticized the gluten-free weight loss fad, saying that it trivializes the problems faced by thousands of people with celiac disease, many of whom experience painful reactions after consuming even a small amount of gluten. What do you think?
