Neogen has released a new test that detects allergens for six tree nuts within 10 minutes of extraction. The test can be used in manufacturing or food preparation to detect cross-contamination for prevention.
The test detects 5-10 parts per million of almond, hazelnut, pecan, walnut, cashew, and pistachio residues on environmental surfaces and in rinses. It is meant for use in cleaning validation in food manufacture and processing. Neogen says that the test was developed to replace single-detection tests at the behest of customers needing an all-in-one option.
In Development for Over a Year
Neogen says that the test was in development for over a year, combining technology and knowledge from the company’s other tests, which can detect allergens individually, but not as groups. This is the first multi-analyte lateral flow test for tree nuts, meaning it’s the first single test for multiple tree nut allergens.
The test requires only that the tester dip the device in an extracted sample and wait for ten minutes to get results. The tests are sold in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and North America (including the U.S.).
