A California startup company, Before Brands, is targeting food allergy prevention in babies. The product is still in development, but has attracted funding from angel investors who think that the idea has promise. The plan is to introduce supplements that contain controlled amounts of common food allergens in order to give an easy, carefully-controlled introduction to allergens.

Research has shown that infants who are exposed to some food allergens early are less likely to develop food allergies later. Before Brands hopes to capitalize on this knowledge.

$35 million in funding will help develop the product for market.

A recent funding round raised $35 million from a private investor and will be used to develop the final product for market. CEO and co-founder of Before Brands, Dr. Kari Nadeau, a pediatrician, is also the director of the Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research at Stanford University.

Most pediatricians now recommend that infants be introduced to food allergens early in order to lessen chances of food allergies later in life.
