Kim Kardashian, an immensely famous reality star and the wife of acclaimed rapper Kanye West, has spoken out about her struggle with psoriasis. The reality star spoke for many when she discussed her frustration with psoriasis symptoms in an illuminating Twitter post.
“I think the time has come I start a medication for psoriasis. I’ve never seen it like this before and I can’t even cover it at this point,” she wrote. “It’s taken over my body. Has anyone tried a medication for psoriasis & what kind works best? Need help ASAP!!!”
Psoriasis is a relatively common chronic skin condition. When psoriasis flares up, it dries out the top layers of your skin, creating inflamed and scaly patches. Depending on the severity of the flare-up, psoriasis patches can cause everything from an itch to severe joint pain.
Although there is no cure for psoriasis, you can use several different treatments to reduce the pain and inflammation. Applying a prescription topical treatment, such as cream or spray, is often the most effective way to reduce flare-up symptoms.
Other psoriasis treatment options, such as light therapy and herb-based remedies, are also growing in popularity. However, be sure to consult your physician before embarking on any non-conventional treatment plans.
Kardashian first revealed that she suffered from psoriasis in 2011 during an episode of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” Now, the reality star is joining an increasing number of celebrities who are openly talking about psoriasis. Stassi Schroeder, the reality star of Vanderpump Rules, is the latest to speak candidly about her troubles with the skin disease.
“The advice I would give to anyone who has psoriasis is to let go of any anxiety about it because there’s nothing you can do,” Schroeder remarked during an appearance on TODAY. “If you stress about it, it’s only going to make it worse because it’s brought on by stress a lot of the time. And what’s the point? You’re just going to be miserable.
“You just have to embrace the fact that this is one of your imperfections and that things could be so much worse.”
