ANN (FROM MAIN DISCUSSION BOARD)

HAS ANYONE EVER BEEN DENIED PASSAGE ON A FLIGHT DUE TO THE ALLERGY? THIS SUMMER AMERICAN AIRLINES FORCED MY FAMILY TO GET OFF THE PLANE BECAUSE OF MY SON'S PEANUT ALLERGY.

How dreadful for you. Please tell us the details. I, and others I have spoken to, have to happy with American's handling of PA. Let us hope this is an isolated incident rather than a change in policy. Were you compensated.

We just changed from American to Southwest but we have never flown either. I just felt better after talking to Southwest than American. I can not believe they would not acomadate your family and that they can force you to not fly. What did your family do? Hope you were not far from home?

A USAir flight attendant asked me not to board a flight from PIT to LAX in Nov 2000 because she said it was "her right to serve passengers peanuts." I informed her that I was a paying passenger, and I had every right to board the plane. I further explained that I had followed all the proper protocols, and in fact, my connecting flight from Toronto was stocked with pretzels. I was very persistent, requested she call her supervisor, and eventually was allowed to board. It was very uncomfortable, she was rude, and it was a horrible experience. I did get a written apology from the airline after I had an extensive conversation with Customer Relations.

Does anyone know what our rights are under the Americans with Disabilities Act? Has anyone used the AD Act to challenge airlines? If so, please cite cases & links if available. EB
