Hi I am trying to find a recipe to make cocoa drink mix. Spencer has discovered Choc. Milk but I don't like buying a 1/2-gallon. So I would like to just mix him a cup every now & then. But I am not fully comfortable giving him the pre-made mix because of the possibility of cross contamination for Peanut on shared lines.
Please post a recipe here if you have one.
Thanks
I don't have a "dry mix" recipe for chocolate mix other than for hot chocolate. Off hand, for a "Quik-type mix," I'd try about 1 T. cocoa, 2 T. sugar, 1/8 t. vanilla (chocolate requires vanilla to bring out its flavor) to 6-8 ounces milk. Play around with the quantities and I'm sure you'll find a mixture that will work for you.
As to a "Hershey's-type Chocolate Syrup" recipe, here's one to try:
1/2 cup cocoa
1 cup sugar
1 dash salt
1 cup water
1 t. vanilla
Combine cocoa, sugar, and salt in a saucepan. Add water, and mix until smooth. Bring this mixture to a boil. Allow it to boil for one minute, be carefull this does not over boil. Remove from heat, when this cools add the vanilla. (Makes about 4 servings.)
We have safely used Hersheys chocolate syrup daily for the past 6 years.
Horizon makes a 8 oz container with a straw and doesn't have to be refrigerated until you are going to use it.
AH!LASKA makes a chocolate syrup that is safe from peanuts and treenuts. (Found out Whole Foods, Mothers and Trader Joes)
My son likes ovaltine, particularly for hot chocolate.
