It would all depend on your child's allergies. If your child is only allergic to peanuts, you could stick with SAFE foods (but only if you are completely certain of their safety). If your child is allergic to other foods as well, you might want to try a "Goodie Bag Swap": Trade his Halloween bag for a similar bag which you have filled with his favorite safe treats. Also, we have "traded" candy for TOYS!!! This always works out very well for us. (It also depends on your child's age and disposition).

We go out trick-or-treating as normal. When we get home, we go through the bag and pull out the unsafe treats (I usually bring them in to work) and we are left with A LOT of safe treats (Tootsie Rolls, Jolly Ranchers, Twizzlers, Starburst, gum, etc.). My son seems to have no problem with doing this. The biggest hurdle is Halloween parties at school!

We just go to people we know so they take care of or son. At school the teacher is going to send out notes to each family saying please send skittels or another safe food. She hopes by telling them what to send there will be less confussion. Good luck all!
