I'm quite certain a thread exists on this, but I haven't been able to find it.

What ice cream makers do you all recommend? I think I'm ready to take the plunge.

Thanks!

Amy

We have a Cuisinart, which we're very happy with. I just wish it was bigger.

Re-raising, as we bought the Cuisinart Ice-cream/Yogurt/Sorbet maker today! I can't wait to try it. Anyone have any tips/advice or even recipes?
Thanks

Well, I've been making some coffee ice cream lately. You know the extra cup at the bottom of the pot? I throw it in the fridge and add it to the milk/cream mixture. I might as well do it with the extra cookie odd and ends from Christmas. Save those leftovers! They always seem to make their way into our ice cream maker.

ryan's mom- thanks! i love the coffee idea. Tonight we'll try peach ice cream - using our homemade canned peaches - then i'd like to try the coffee ice cream. Don't kow why we put off buying one for so long!

Funny, i was considering ice cream makers just last week. The Cuisinart looked promising, but there was another one that could handle two bowls at the same time, with possibly two different recipes.
With two kids having different allergies (peanut/nuts/soy for one, and milk for the other one) having two bowls sounded good. Plus it's twice the quantity..

I don't know why we didn't get one sooner! DS keeps walking around the house after trying the homemade ice cream and saying "its' the best" "Mom and Dad - you make the BEST ice cream - can I have some more!"
His favourite is the chocolate with chocolate chips mixed in. DD loves the blueberry/raspberry ( the last of the frozen raspberrys from our garden). Our first try was the peach frozen yogurt. I love that you can use low fat yogurt and it still tastes great.
We will probably buy another bowl to keep in the freezer so we can make 2 different kinds in one ice cream-making session.
Darthcleo - we looked for, but couldn't find the one with the 2 bowls that can be used at the same time. I think the two bowl option is great - especially when dealing with different allergies.
Next batch... strawberry. DD wants Tiger tiger, but I haven't found a recipe for that yet.
Here are 2 recipe sites I found:

and

This last one has quite a few listed under the "collections" heading.
Take care,

We love our Donvier!
We also love our Ben & Jerry's ice cream cookbook. We ate homemade B&J for about 4 years before we went to America and ate the real thing (Helen wasn't as sensitive to PN then...)
The book was pretty cheap - and has their chocolate fudge sauce recipe, as well as lots of ice creams and sorbets

I've had a Cuisinart for the past year. I took someone's suggestion and bought an extra bowl. It's wonderful to have the two bowls...not only can I make 2 different flavors but can also "double-up" on one flavor for parties, family get-togethers, etc. I've been very happy with the Cuisinart.

We have a cuisinart, and I had a Donvier years ago, when I still lived at home with the parents. I think Mom gave it to me for my birthday or something my last year of college. The best ever one I made was "French Chocolate Silk" and French Vanilla" flavors from the Donvier book. They had alot of eggs or yolk, though and my dd is egg alergic at present.
They are basically the same, but you crank the Donvier yourself, and the Cuisinart does it for you. I think the bowl freezes better with the Cuisinart, but they might just make them better nowadays as well. I like them both. Very easy. becca
