Is honey safe?

Kathy Ann, I'm not an expert, of course, but I have never heard of problems with honey for PA people, but you could always call the manufacturer just to double-check for the possibility of cross-contamination at the manufacturing/bottling facility.
Also, of course, honey should never be given to children under the age of 12 months (although I'm not sure if this warning is applicable if the honey is in a baked good).

I raised this post because My daughter's school wants me to find a safe organic honey, I did not think that it would be hard.... Has anyone out there come across a safe organic (or other 'health food' store brand) honey?

Yes...and its name totally escapes me at the moment. We used to use Honeyrun, but they stopped bottling it. In looking for a replacement, I found one company in California that I called. The woman I spoke with said that honey is their only product, unlike some other companies I found that also package nuts, etc. It can be mail ordered, not just in the small sizes that you see first on the website, but also in buckets/jugs.

They do have an organic product listed, but I did not ask specifically about it re. PA, and I am not sure if it's bottled by them, or before it reaches them.
We're close enough to CA that I plan to order it (freight won't be too bad), but you may want to check and see if it's carried anywhere closer to you.

Sue, thanks for your post, I'll check it out. I'm in the Boston area, so I may need to find a more local Mom-and-Pop (if you know what I mean) Sue Bee honey is nut-safe, it's just more refined that my DD's school would prefer. Thanks again,

I do not know(have not checked) but I was going to also suggest having Trader Joe's check. Would be more affordable.
I saw you posted for oats, as well. Does Hodgson mills make organic oats? I have seen them in stores in the greater Boston area, though I live in the Wwest suburban area. Stop and Shop has some of their line(my is small, so they never have what the superstores have, either). Becca

becca, yes, Trader Joe's is checking, but they probably won't get back to me until tomorrow, I'll post the results. I did find an organic rolled oats at Trader Joe's (and more importantly, the school's co-op) it's called Country Choice. The taste test is tomorrow, we'll see if my DD gives it a 'thumbs up'

I've eaten Billy Bee honey all my life with no problems. I think it should be safe. To be certain you should contact the manufacturer (re- any cross-contamination issues).
But from my experience, it has been safe (Billy Bee honey)

I've been using Dutch Gold Clover Pure Honey for years, even before my son was diagnosed with PA, but of course, older than a year because of honey warnings for children under one. I use it every week in my pizza dough and have never experienced any problems. However, I have never called on this product, but haven't switched around on brands because it has never caused my son any problems. This doesn't really give an affirmative answer, except to say my son has not had any adverse reactions to Dutch Gold Clover Honey.

My child has had many brands of honey. If you are still unsure, substitute sugar and increase the amount by about 50%. Also increase liquid by appropriate amount- 1 TBs.
Honey- add 1 Tbs. milk or water, etc. This works ok in bread machine recipes for us when we are out of honey.
