I am the mother of 4. My 2nd oldest, he's almost 6, is severely allergic to peanuts/nuts/eggs. He entered Kindergarten this fall and it has been just one thing after another. I have been rallying to get policies changed in the district, so far his school has made some changes, but it sparked controversy, we even made the local news! But that won't stop me, this is my kid and I have to do what I can to keep him safe, especially when he is away from home.
Just to share, I have 4 kids, my oldest is almost 8 and has 2 very minor food allergies(beff and chocolate, we just found out). Then my almost 6yr old (peanuts/nuts/eggs) he carries an Epipen for all of the above. Then my 3 1/2yr old,he is allergic to eggs/milk/soy. He has not had a severe reaction to any, but they are kept out of his diet. And my little one, 11mths she is allergic to milk so far, and pretty badly, her first reaction to formula was her lips swelling and hives covering her chin and neck. We now keep the Epipen handy for her too. That's my story, thanks for letting me introduce myself!

Edit fro myself...found out since then my 3 1/2yr old can add beef and pork to his list of foods and my almost 1yr old can now add eggs(and needs an epipen).

Welcome, Chanda4!
I'm glad you found this site--there's so much helpful information here. Check out the school section for lots of good tips on working with the schools. Have you looked into getting a 504 plan for your son?
There is also another website called www.kidswithfoodallergies.org where you can find additional support (and lots of good recipes!) for families dealing with multiple food allergies.

Hi chandra,
Hang in there. I had a rough go at school, but things are better now. I do recommend getting a 504 and immediately requesting IHP from school nurse.
Are you the one in Colorado?
I thought I read someone here posting from Broomfield. I am from colorado and most of my family lives in Broomfield. My aunt told me she saw something on the news....
Anyway, keep working on it, hang in there.

I was going to see if a picture would work in my signature...
often times from family they treat us and the food allergy issues as if we're a bunch of freaks. My kids are beautiful, not freaks...that breaks my heart that people even think that.
