I read in a magazine, that if a recipe calls for nuts, you can put chopped pretzels instead. It will give a crunchy and salty taste similar to nuts. I never would have thought of that, but I am going to try it.

When I've tried this, the pretzels get soft. Is there any way to prevent this?

I've used oatmeal in a sweet potato casserole recipe that calls for nuts in the strusel/praline-type topping. It worked very well.
