I am a scool bus driver and I will have a PA preschool-age student this year. My questions are...what are the odds of the child getting anything peanut-related and having a reaction, even with the most extreme cautions? Mom says his allergy is so life-threatening, he can have an anaphylactic reaction by just breathing peanut 'dust' in the air. I posted a reply to a concern about busses and PA children because I felt I needed to express that not all drivers have the same situation or that drivers are NOT all the same! I do happen to have an aide on my bus and we (along with all of our drivers) are trained in first aid and cpr and are required to administer any medication prescribed by a doctor with permission from the parents. I have confidence in myself that I will be able to handle anything that comes my way, but I really wanted to know, since this child is so high risk, are the chances that high for him to have requent reactions? Every precaution will be taken on my bus, and I feel the school is being very compliant to the paretns. My one concern is..they have snack right before I take them home and any incidences will most likely happen on my bus if they do occur. I know I'm repeating myself, but I just wanted to know if there's statistics about frequency despite precaution. Thank you for any ino and your patience!!
