Hi Jess3311
Welcome , it is a great site isnt. I found it a couple of months ago and cant help but to ""check in"" very 2 days!

You asked if peoples replies were ever"" well just dont eat them"".
We went to a dinner at a friend of the families house, on top of the jello was a nut, the hostest removed it in my presence and said ""okay its safe now"".
To bad some people jusy dont get it!

Take care Kristy

Hi & sorry to hear about your sons PA.

This link looks like it may answer some of your questions. Youll want to scroll down to find what you are looking for. To be safe, I believe you would want to read the ingredients, and not only look for an allergy warning. Ive seen peanut oil listed in the ingredients of a product that had no allergy warning in bold print.

I hope this helps to answer some questions for you

LJG,
I am not aware of a TNA site however if there is one youll find out since a lot of kids here are PA & TNA.

So welcome and stay!
Everyone here is avoiding all nuts anyway even if there not tree-nut allergic

Thank you! We have been told by our allergist to avoid whole peanuts as well due to concerns about tree nut cross-contamination during manufacturing, but he says Kylie can eat peanut butter, as long as it is made in a peanut only factory. I have a lot of admiration for all you PA Moms out there...I can only imagine how Id be feeling if cashews and pistachios were as prevalent. Thanks again for welcoming me into the group. Ill enjoy having some email friends to talk with.

Lori

Bienvenue Marie-France,

Glad you found us. Il ya pas mal de canadiens ici!!!!

My now 6 yr old sons first reaction was to a peanut butter cookie too. In his case he vomited.

Search and post. Its the best way to get info.

Dear MF,

I too am new to this site. I posted for the first time yesterday - ""new - cant believe the studpity of the school"" - please read this.

I firmly believe that no one understands these allergies cause they cant see them. You can see a child in a wheelchair. Unles they see them go into shock they have no idea.

We have been working with our school for 3 long hard years now and it is a constant battle.

I have made a lot of mistakes in the past but also learned from them.

I too became involved with the school as a noon hour supervisor and this helps somewhat.

At first we were never that worried - we were very stupid ourselves - we placed a lot of trust in other people. Dont ever do that.

Look at all the schools in your area - I am working on getting into the private school here. Their dilegence is unbelieveable!!!! One of the moms from our school switched over and is very happy. Being a private school they can say this is our policy and if you dont like it dont come here. They have zero tolerance for anyone bringing unsafe food to the school. It is very expensive but I am looking at all options to get my 2 children in the school. No school can gaurantee 100% safety, but their attitude towards the whole issue is what is important. Please read my posting - the little girl that brought in the unsafe snack - her parents & grandparent were never contacted to rectify this situation!!!! Instead he will put a news letter out in 10 days reminding people to not bring unsafe foods to school. They did not understand why I wanted these people contacted?????? Be very careful of anything you say or do at the school cause it can come back to haunt you. I am labelled any mistakes I or my children make are brought up. Make sure everyone in that school is trained in epi-pen procedure - everyone.

Vacations: we do tons of camping and always have, we share the whole work load, remember it is a small area to clean for the safety of your child.

We went to Hawaii - how? Well we got a condo, bought groceries and cooked 90% of our meals.

We carry wipes with us at all times and are constantly making her aware of situations. Of touching things that perhaps she shouldnt touch. Contamination is everywhere but I personally feel you cant keep them in a bubble. This has gotten me in a lot of trouble when I vocalize this so be careful also. I have met another mother here that is just as passionate and worried as you are - they go camping, he goes to tae kondo (spelling???), beavers, field trips. how does she do this - either her or her husband always goes along. We have to try to give them as normal of a life as we can. This all starts with us educating our children, they constantly have to be aware. This is hard to do and my little one scares me sometimes but we learn from every moment.

Sleep overs - we do them - how? - only certain homes. And these parents are very dilegent. they are all trained in the epi-pen procedure and usually my older daughter goes a long. I also try to have it at my house. So far she has only been to one house. You will find a comfort zone with certain parents and you will go from there.

Play dates - she hardly ever gets invited over to other peoples houses. They are always at mine - fine - make it special - these are few so we make sure we do fun things - also then the kids want to come to your house.

I hope this helps some, please contact me if you need to vent.

Gizmo (Dorothy)

Thanks everyone for your replies.
I know its a clich

Marie-France, Kelloggs Canada and Quaker (in Canada) both label for *may contain* on their packaging.

I know Kelloggs has a bar, but Im not sure if its granola. Have you checked the Quaker ones? If neither of them have what youre looking for do a search of the Manufacturers Forum.

And, when you have a minute, (if you want to share ) you could post your recipe for granola bars unders Snacks and Recipes.

Welcome to the boards.
