When you have a peanut allergy, the best way to prevent an allergic reaction is to avoid peanuts altogether, which means giving up certain foods.

Luckily, if you like the flavor and texture of peanuts, there are quite a few substitutes that you can use:

  • - Sunflower seeds
  • - Sesame seeds
  • - Pumpkin seeds
  • - Hemp seeds
  • - Oats

If you are not allergic to tree nuts, try using almonds, cashews, macadamia nuts, pistachios, or walnuts in place of peanuts.

Be aware that some of the ingredients listed above may be manufactured using equipment that also processes peanuts, so cross-contamination is a possibility. Always check the package!

Read the label, of course, but I use Blue Diamond almonds as a replacement for peanuts in a lot of dishes. My daughter has a life threatening peanut allergy and Blue Diamond processes their almonds in a peanut free plant.
