I am giving my sister a bridal shower in a couple weeks...menu will be several salads (hot chicken salad, etc) plus rolls, plus some chips and cheese dip(her request...she loves the kind I make in the crock pot)...I need an idea for dessert. I'm not against a cake, which I know is the norm, but DS is also egg allergic and i just don't cook w/ eggs anymore...my cakes taste great but never look very good w/out egg...I've tried every recipe out there...my cupcakes taste awesome, but again come out flat...anyone have a suggestion for a yummy, egg and nut free, bridal shower appropriate dessert that is not too difficult?

A platter of a variety of cookies (you can start weeks ahead and freeze as you go or store in a cool basement as your selection grows)
Pie - two or three kinds
Ice Cream - you can even make small sundaes and freeze them in freezer proof cups on cookie sheets or make your own ice cream cake! (Not as hard as it sounds but it might not be the best occasion to try this for the first time)

Chocolate fondue to go w/ the fruit suggested above. People who don't like chocolate don't have to dip their fruit.

Does cheesecake contain egg? I'm not really good with what does/doesn't have egg in it, but a couple showers I've gone to have had itty bitty cheesecakes. They have those no-bake ones by Jell-O, and you just get the mini cupcake wrappers and make them in there. They're pretty simple to make, I used to mix them up in one of those throw-away Glad containers sitting on the floor of my dorm room.
Cookies would also be good, I don't think the sugar cookie recipe I use uses egg, and if you could find wedding-theme cookie cutters, it could be cute [img]http://uumor.pair.com/nutalle2/peanutallergy/smile.gif[/img]
I'm doing a baby shower tomorrow evening, and here's what I'll be serving for desserts:
Spice cake (Bundt)
s'mores bars (Linda M. Coss recipe posted here...)
lemon bars ([i]super modified class[/i]... egg-free and fabulous)
strawberry-rhubarb bars (working on tweaking this one to be egg-free too.)
If you slice them in advance and put them on pretty serving plates, nicely arranged, it is very [i]elegant[/i] as it becomes a "tiny dessert" buffet! (Now who doesn't like [i]that?[/i] )
I'll post the two bar variations tomorrow when I have time.

Use Bisquick, which contains no egg. These are so easy to make even I can do it (I don't cook, DH is a chef)

Crazy Chocolate Cake
Absolutely one of the best cakes I've ever had. Use cake flour for best results.
3 cups flour
2 cups sugar
2 t. baking soda
1 t. salt
1/2 cup cocoa (hershey)
3/4 cup oil
1 t. vanilla
2 T. vinegar
2 cups water
Mix the dry ingredients and then add the wet ones, and mix until smooth. Prepare pan(s) by greasing and flouring lightly. Pour into 24 cupcake pans, two 9-inch pans, or one 9X11-inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 20-25 minutes (cupcakes), 30 minutes (9-inch) or 50 minutes (9X11). Test with a toothpick to make sure it is done all the way through. Cool. Ice with favorite frosting.
