Double Chocolate Cake
1 2/3 cups all purpose flour
1 cup packed brown sugar or granulated sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vinegar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix flour, brown sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt with fork in ungreased square pan, 8x8x2 inches. Mix in remaining ingredients except chocolate chips. Sprinkle chips over batter.

Bake until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, 35 to 40 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired. Yields 9 servings; 305 calories per serving.

Note: I've made the batter in a separate bowl and then poured it into the pan. Also, do not use self-rising flour for the recipe.

This looks similar to the crazy cake or wacky cake with chocolate chips. I made that recently and added 1/3 bag of milk chocolate chips and it was out of this world.
I'll have to try this recipe if it's different than the one I used recently...

I've made the vanilla version of wacky cake and I think this is slightly different. It's a little denser (in a good way). Both are very yummy. I've not made the chocolate version of the wacky cake but making it with chocolate chips sounds divine.
