We all scream for ice cream! Unless you have a milk allergy, in which case you need to find a special treat that won’t trigger a response.
Fortunately, there are loads of options to keep anyone’s sweet tooth satisfied. Why not start with an all-time favorite: the banana!
Here are five great ideas which will work with most food allergies and sensitivities.
Grab your chopsticks! Slice 1.5-inch strips of tortilla. Spread some kind of nut butter or equivalent on the strip. Take a 1.5-inch slice of banana and roll it up. Top the roll with a bit of jam, and there you have it – delicious banana “sushi.”
Take a whole banana with peel and cut away just a sliver of the peel on top so that there is an opening to the banana fruit. Take a spoon and scoop out some banana, put it in a bowl.
Mix it with 1 tbsp. of brown sugar (or some sugar equivalent), 1 tbsp. of oats or rice cereal and 1 tsp of butter spread. Mash it together.
Spoon it back into the banana boat and top with dairy-free chocolate drizzle or chips. Now bake in the oven for 10 minutes at 375 degrees. Cover the banana peel with foil to prevent too much browning. Warm, gooey and delicious!
Take a pineapple ring and place it at the bottom of a bowl. Add a scoop of your favorite sorbet or ice cream-like frozen treat on top. Cover with banana slices, drizzle with chocolate sauce and top with a cherry!
Banana Chocolate Fondue
Slice bananas into 2-inch pieces. Melt dairy-free chocolate chips with rice milk in the microwave to make a sauce. Pick up the banana pieces with toothpicks and dip in the sauce. Get creative and cover with sprinkles or cereal.
Just cut and slide on to skewers: banana, kiwi, apple, watermelon, cantaloupe or any other fruit your kids will enjoy – you could even plop on a marshmallow!
