I, for one, eat regular Multigrain Cheerios every morning. Possibly because of the routine I’ve created by eating it for a long time over and over again but mostly because they taste good. So on the television, my mom and I saw a very disturbing (the advertising was fine but the subject was atrocious) commercial about Multigrain Peanut Butter Cheerios! Oh my, the horror! Does this mean I am going to see in little black writing at the bottom of the ingredients something like, “May Contain Traces of Peanuts or Processed in a Facility that also Processes Peanuts” on my Cheerios?
What Cheerios Has to Say
When confronted with the matter, the following was said by Cheerios:
“Multi-Grain Cheerios Peanut Butter contains peanuts. Cheerios has a commitment to allergen management. We can say with complete confidence that Multi-Grain Cheerios Peanut Butter will not cross-contaminate other Cheerios varieties. As always, if you’re concerned about allergies, we highly recommend that you always consult the allergen listing and the ingredient label on any product you may consume.”
I Will Keep Eating Multigrain Cheerios
Personally I will continue to eat Multigrain Cheerios, I have some faith in the integrity of the Cheerios company but like I always say, do what makes you comfortable. Just be careful at the supermarket or where ever you get the cereal to get the right box of Cheerios because Multigrain Cheerios and Multigrain Peanut Butter Cheerios look pretty similar.
Always Check the Label
Oh and always check the ingredients on all food but especially the Cheerios just to make sure they do not change their policies about cross-contamination!
