Mom Accused of Killing Daughter By Giving Her Peanut M&Ms

A mother is accused of giving her child – who has a severe peanut allergy – peanut m&ms. Her daughter, -8-year-old Jessica Cirella, was found dead in her New York home following a severe reaction to peanuts, says the Huffington Post.

The girl's mother, 31-year-old Veronica Cirella, is accused of murdering her daughter by feeding her candy that contained peanuts, knowing that it would cause a severe allergic reaction. She pleaded not guilty, and faces a life sentence if found guilty.

Jessica apparently had cerebral palsy in addition to the allergy. According to prosecutors, Jessica's mother killed her because she thought that it would free Jessica from her pain. Veronica reportedly gave the M&Ms to her daughter as a special treat. Unfortunately, that treat ultimately ended Jessica's life. Veronica then laid next to her daughter as Jessica died of anaphylactic shock.

Veronica then attempted to kill herself by taking a combination of insulin and painkillers, writing a suicide note that explained “I had to give her a better life, which was to give her back to heaven... I don’t mind going to hell because I took my life to give her a better life, which is in heaven where she can be free.”
