The Milwaukee Brewers just announced that during the 2012 season, three home games will offer a ‘peanut-controlled’ seating section. These sections are being set aside for people with peanut allergies and their family and friends, and offer about 100 seats per game. Ticketholders agree not to bring peanut products into the section during the specified games.
According toFox 6 Now,the idea apparently came from a 6th grade student, Mathew Trotier, who wrote a letter to the team suggesting a seating area for kids with peanut allergies. The team reviewed the logistics and decided to adopt Mathew’s suggestion.
The peanut-controlled seating is set for the Club Outfield sections 306 and 307 for three games: Monday May 7th against the Reds; Thursday July 26th against the Nationals; and Friday, September 14th against the Mets. Tickets in the special peanut-free section haven’t yet gone on sale, but the team announced each ticket will be $38.
The Brewers aren’t the first major league baseball team to set aside seats for fans with peanut allergies, and you can expect this trend to grow more popular in the coming years, as food allergy issues get more publicity. What do you think of this plan?
